Calculations and bills

Odometer readings, distance, fuel price, tolls, parking, custom fuel economy, people counts and bill text are processed in browser memory. GasSplit does not upload these values or store bills on a server. Refreshing or closing the page clears the trip. The browser and operating system may handle your clipboard or a share action you explicitly choose.

Optional local storage

Clicking Save this car or Update saved car saves one vehicle configuration: selected vehicle, reference and adopted fuel economy, source and dates. Unit and currency preferences are saved separately. Trip readings, entered or applied fuel prices, tolls and parking are not saved as trip settings. A separate public US reference price feed may be cached locally for up to 24 hours, without trip information. Settings remain until you delete them, clear browser data or a future update requires rebuilding them. They do not sync across devices. Avoid saving on shared devices.

Vehicle lookup

The brand-first vehicle directory is generated from an official FuelEconomy.gov public CSV and served by this site in per-brand files. Directory requests reveal the selected public brand to the hosting platform. After a version is chosen, the browser requests its public vehicle ID from FuelEconomy.gov over HTTPS. That service receives the ID and connection metadata, such as IP address. We set no-referrer. No trip, fuel price, tolls, parking or bill values are included. Its privacy practices apply to that request. Vehicle records are cached locally for 7 days; during an outage, a successful record up to 30 days old may be used with a visible date warning. Directory dates are shown during selection. Saved car snapshots are not automatically refreshed.

Optional reference price lookup

Opening Use a reference price for USD requests the public fuel price feed directly from FuelEconomy.gov over HTTPS with no-referrer. No location, trip, entered price or chosen fuel type is sent; the feed includes multiple fuel types. The service receives network metadata such as IP address. The public feed is cached in this browser for 24 hours and expired data is not offered if a refresh fails. Applied values and source labels remain only in page memory. The retrieval time is not the price publication date.

Analytics and hosting

On the production domain, GasSplit loads Google Tag Manager for Google Analytics 4 usage statistics through its published container. Google Analytics may use first-party cookies and process connection metadata, device/browser information, page visits, guide-to-calculator clicks, calculator option choices and enumerated actions such as successful calculation, bill copying, image preview/download clicks and recommending the tool. We do not send entered trip values, amounts, people counts, vehicle IDs, bill text or images as analytics event parameters. Page URLs are limited to known pages and predefined campaign labels; URL fragments and other query values are excluded, and referrers are reduced to their origin. Google Signals and advertising personalization are disabled in our configuration. No session replay or automatic form capture is configured. There is currently no in-site analytics consent or withdrawal control. Browser tracking protections or the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on may limit collection; calculation remains available when analytics is blocked. See Google's privacy policy. The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which may process connection and request metadata such as IP addresses and requested URLs to deliver and secure the site. Local calculation does not imply hosting produces no logs.

Clear your data

Clear local data in the calculator footer deletes GasSplit's saved car, preferences, public vehicle cache and public reference price cache and resets the form. Delete saved car removes only that configuration. You can also clear this site's browser storage. These actions do not clear Google Analytics cookies, browser history, system clipboard or copies shared elsewhere. You can remove site cookies using your browser settings.

Sharing and images

Copy and locally generated bill PNGs include estimated costs, any entered tolls and parking, distance, fuel economy, units and split amounts. They omit original odometer readings, vehicle names and version IDs. Bill text and PNGs include a GasSplit credit and https://gassplit.com. Images are generated in browser memory, previewed locally and downloaded only when you choose Download PNG; no bill is uploaded to render an image. Review the bill before sending. Share GasSplit opens the system share menu with a product introduction and homepage URL only, without trip or bill data. Where system sharing is unavailable or fails, the recommendation can be copied. GasSplit does not automatically message anyone.

Cloudflare processes messages for routing, and Gmail receives and stores the forwarded messages. If you email us, your email address, message and any attachments are processed to handle your request. Send only the information needed for your question; do not include passwords, payment details or other sensitive information. You can use this address to ask about personal information you have sent us.
